AXIS Smart System Pilates Platform

You want to keep up your strength at home, but a bench and a rack of heavy weights are out of the question. This review of the LIT Axis Smart Resistance Band System covers what it does, how it sets up, what the app costs, who it suits, and a few simpler band alternatives.

Disclosure: I was provided the product at no charge for this review. However, there was no other compensation paid and the opinions are my own.

The AXIS™ Smart System from LIT Method is a set of resistance bands paired with a sensor and an app. It is meant to teach you Pilates and strength training at home, with guided classes to follow along.

The sensor is the clever part. It measures things like the weight you lift, how many reps you do, and time under tension (how long your muscles stay working during each move). It pairs with any Bluetooth device, so you can see the numbers on your phone or tablet.

In the box you get adjustable bands (0 to 60 pounds), a pair of handles, a pair of ankle cuffs, and a universal anchor that lets you attach the bands to different spots. A protective carrying case holds it all.

You also get unlimited text support from a real personal trainer. If you have a question about a move, you can ask a person instead of guessing.

LIT Method offers guided classes for Pilates and strength training. The devices also come with a lifetime warranty, and the company says it will work with you to fix any problem.

Now the downsides. The system works through a Bluetooth phone or tablet, so it is best for someone comfortable using an app. If you would rather pick up a plain set of bands and go, this will feel like more than you need.

The bands top out at 60 pounds. That is plenty for most people starting out, but a seasoned lifter may outgrow it.

Pure Band Physical Therapy Band

Physical Therapy Resistance Band — Flat Band for Home Rehab

The Pure Band is a flat resistance band made for physical therapy and home rehab. It is a plain, simple way to start building strength without a lot of gear.

It comes in the Orange, Light Resistance version. It is latex-free, which matters if you have a latex sensitivity.

The band is flat, so it holds its shape and doesn’t roll up or bunch while you exercise. That is a small thing until a band keeps twisting on you halfway through a set.

You can use it seated or standing. For upper-body work, you can anchor it under a chair and pull against it.

There is no app, no sensors and no screen. It is just a band, so it won’t track your reps or tell you how you are doing.

It also has no handles. You wrap the band around your hands, and that takes some adjusting. If you have arthritis or stiff hands, it may be awkward to grip, so you might want to try it with a therapist’s help first.

The resistance isn’t listed in measurable units. If your therapist has prescribed a specific amount of resistance, it will be hard to match it exactly with this band.

It suits someone rebuilding strength at home who wants something simple. It is not for anyone who wants heavy resistance or workout tracking.

Fit Simplify Resistance Loop Bands

If you want to add some strength work at home without a lot of equipment, a set of loop resistance bands is a simple place to start. The Fit Simplify Resistance Loop Exercise Bands come as a set of 5, with an instruction guide and a carry bag.

Each band is a closed loop measuring 12 inches by 2 inches. The five bands come in different resistance levels: extra light, light, medium, heavy and extra heavy.

The extra light and light bands suit beginners. The medium, heavy and extra heavy bands are meant for more intermediate and advanced strength training. That range means you can start gently and move up to a stronger band later.

You can use them for general exercise, stretching or strength training. They also fit alongside many popular workout programs. Physical therapists use this kind of band for rehab, too, so it is a good one to ask your own therapist about if you are recovering from an injury.

The carry bag makes it easy to keep the set together or take it along when you travel.

Here is the trade-off. These bands are plain loops with no app, no sensors and no tracking. You will need to count your own reps and decide for yourself when to move to a stronger band. If you want guidance, an exercise routine from a therapist or trainer will help.

A band also will not give you the steady feel of a weight. The resistance gets harder as you stretch it, so slow, controlled movements work best.

The built-in sensors track numbers like reps, weight and time under tension. They do not check your form, so ask a trainer or physical therapist to watch how you move.

The sensors track numbers like reps, weight and time under tension. They do not check your form, so if you want to know whether you are moving well, ask a trainer or physical therapist to watch.

Here are some ways the LIT Axis system could be used:

  • Pilates: The smart resistance bands can simulate Pilates reformer exercises, promoting flexibility and muscle balance without bulky equipment.
  • Strength Training: The adjustable resistance levels offer a safe and secure way to build muscle strength, which is essential for maintaining mobility and independence.
  • Balance Training: Resistance band routines can be part of practicing balance and coordination. If balance is a worry, ask your doctor or physical therapist which moves are safe for you. Do standing moves next to a counter or a heavy chair, and keep bands away from your feet.
  • Rehabilitation: For recovering from injuries or surgeries, the LIT Axis system can provide a gentle and adjustable way to regain strength and flexibility.

Overall, the LIT Axis Smart Resistance Band System could be a handy, adaptable fitness tool, especially if you want to exercise at home without a lot of equipment.

Alternatives and Competitors

Several innovative fitness products compete with LIT Axis in the smart resistance band space. Some of these competitors include TRX Home2 System, Tension Toner, and OYO Personal Gym. In this section, we will briefly overview these alternative options and how they compare to LIT Axis.

TRX Home2 System

TRX Home2 System is a popular suspension training system that is versatile and easy to use. With a wide range of exercises and progressions available, it offers a full-body workout experience.

The TRX Home2 System is compact and portable, making it suitable for home workouts, but it does not have the smart features and metrics provided by the LIT Axis.

Tension Toner

Tension Toner is a portable resistance band system that emphasizes using muscle tension for efficient and effective workouts. It is designed to deliver full-body workouts and features a foldable workout bar and multiple resistance bands.

Unlike LIT Axis, Tension Toner doesn’t offer personalized coaching or metrics through an app integration.

OYO Personal Gym

OYO Personal Gym is an all-in-one, portable fitness device equipped with patented SpiraFlex resistance technology, miming weight training benefits. It is suitable for all fitness levels and can provide up to 25 pounds of resistance.

While OYO Personal Gym is a versatile workout tool, it does not offer the same level of resistance or smart tracking features as the LIT Axis.

While all of these alternatives have unique strengths and features, they do not offer the full spectrum of capabilities and advantages of the LIT Axis Smart Resistance Band System.

The smart tracking, personalized coaching, and versatile resistance options make the LIT Axis a standout choice in the growing market of resistance-based fitness equipment.

Conclusion and Recommendations

The LIT Axis Smart Resistance Band System is a versatile, portable fitness solution for users looking to upgrade their home workout experience. With its sleek design and up to 200 lbs of resistance, the LIT Axis is a great option for users of all skill levels.

The LIT Axis System can stand in for several types of fitness equipment, which saves space. Low impact training is easier on the joints than many workouts, but it does not guarantee you will avoid injury.

If you are after something even simpler for low-impact strength work, pool noodle workouts for seniors are worth a look too.

For those considering investing in the LIT Axis system, it is recommended to:

  • Assess your fitness goals and needs to determine if the LIT Axis system aligns with your personal workout preferences.
  • Check with a trainer, doctor or physical therapist about how you move and which exercises are right for you. Use the door anchor only on a sturdy door that closes away from you, and make sure it is latched. Check the bands for nicks or tears before each use, and stop if one looks worn.
  • Consider blending the LIT Axis system with other forms of exercise, such as cardio and flexibility training, to create a well-rounded fitness routine.

In conclusion, the LIT Axis Smart Resistance Band System is a valuable addition to any home gym, incorporating a range of exercises and versatility to keep workouts interesting so that you stay motivated and engaged.
